July Tips
- For players who are having a disappointing season or
those stuck with and un-inspiring coach, nothing can be better
than a baseball camp where fun and instruction are emphasized.
- My experience tells me ... every day a player spends
reinforcing bad habits makes it that much more difficult to
change to good habits.
- Also, learning and practicing the correct fundamentals now
will pay off, if not immediately then definitely at the start of
the following season.
- Hitters who have short memories are the best hitters because
most hitters will fail more than they succeed. Learning to treat
every at-bat separate from the last one is best.
- The warmer the weather, the shorter the time needed to warm
up the arm for pitching. Pitching is hard work, so players
should be careful of leaving their best stuff (and energy) in
the bullpen.
- Remember, kids are in baseball shape this time of year so
having them continue to practice after their season ends is a
good idea. It is an especially good time to start an arm
strengthening throwing program.
Best of Luck!
Jack
Since retiring
from professional baseball in 1987,
Jack Perconte has worked with
youth baseball in the Chicagoland ever since.
He has worked
with numerous young players who have gone on to play in the
collegiate and professional ranks. Teaching youth baseball and
softball has led to the writing of "The
Making of a Hitter," Jack's first of many books that deal
with helping coaches and parents in youth baseball.
The baseball
tips found can only come from a coach who has worked with thousands
of baseball and softball players of all ages. When you hear words
like
humane, practical, fun, insightful, gold mine, and home
run to describe this book, you begin to see the scope of the
baseball instruction and baseball tips contained in "The Making of a
Hitter."
